The Toddler 2 students have been eager to explore the Red Rods this week. This Montessori Sensorial material strengthens the child’s ability to grade objects by length using both the visual and tactile senses.  While the child uses his eyes to discriminate between the longer and shorter rods, he also experiences “long” and “short” in a physical sense as he holds each rod individually end-to-end.  In addition, it is an exercise in patience and focus which requires a long sequence of steps as he carries the rods to his rug, places them in order and returns them to the shelf one at a time.
