I have been a music teacher for over 12 years, before that I was a dance and theater teacher. Throughout my career I attempted many different techniques to teach and discipline children. I tried rewards, punishments, repetition. Sometimes I was too soft, sometimes too harsh. Some moments came naturally to me. Some did not feel right. When I had my first child I constantly worried about how I would find the right school, one that approached learning with kindness, repetition, and excitement. I realized kids needed to touch everything. Kids needed freedom to explore but boundaries to focus. Kids needed an environment that excited and inspired them. When I discovered Montessori I realized they had already figured out everything I was just beginning to understand. I saw how they allowed children the room to grow, to explore what was natural to them, to feel and touch, and most importantly how to inspire children to be lovers of learning. Not only was I happy with this education for my child, but I wanted to teach in the Montessori environment. After two years of teaching in a Montessori school in Houston, TX, my husband was transferred to New York City. Finding the right Montessori School was on the top of my list. Walking into Waterfront Montessori was my answer. I could immediately tell the teachers were going to be the CEO of my child's education. They were confident, warm, inspiring and very well trained in Montessori. I was lucky enough to learn a position had just opened for a music teacher. I applied, was accepted and have been a teacher and a parent at waterfront Montessori for over 8 years. Thank you Waterfront Montessori!
