In the Lower Elementary East classroom, a lovely
example of the benefits of a multi-aged classroom: During reading time after lunch, two first grade
students were having a difficult time reading a book together. Luckily, an older student offered to
help. The older student had the opportunity
to be a leader, practice her reading skills and model behaviors for how to
maintain order in a small group. The
younger students were able to read together and were inspired by the mature
behavior of their older friend.
